The PlayStation 2 will continue to be available in stores across India till Diwali, Sony India has confirmed to MCV.
Sony recently announced that it had stopped production of the PS2, which was launched in 2001 and went on to become the most successful console of all time with over 150 million units sold.
The PS2 is India?s highest selling console and it continues to be a big seller in the country, so much so that several Indian developers have created PS2 games specifically targeting the Indian audience.
While PS3 adoption continues to grow in India, the PS2 has been a great entry-level console in the market for Sony, especially in smaller towns.
While the manufacturing stoppage does signal the end of the PS2, the console will be available in India at least till the November festive season.
