SAN RAFAEL, Calif. ? Prosecutors have called for more charges against a California teen accused of stealing celebrity chef Guy Fieri's Lamborghini and shooting at a couple.
Marin County prosecutor Yvette Martinez-Shaw said Thursday during Max Wade's preliminary hearing that she will also ask a judge to hold Wade for trial on charges of deterring officers through threats or violence and possessing a loaded, concealed weapon he did not own.
Sheriff's Detective Ryan Petersen testified that Wade reached into his waistband when authorities tried to arrest him and had to be subdued by force. He said detectives wrestled a .45-caliber pistol from him during the struggle.
Wade is already facing attempted murder, vehicle theft and other charges. He has pleaded not guilty.
A judge was expected to hear more testimony Friday before deciding whether there is sufficient evidence to order Wade to stand trial.
Meanwhile, an investigator said video surveillance from the San Francisco dealership where the Lamborghini was taken showed another person ? probably a janitor ? in the building when the thief rappelled from the roof.
Wade is accused of stealing Fieri's $220,000 yellow Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder from the showroom in 2011 and driving it around to impress a woman.
Authorities say he later opened fire at the 18-year-old and her boyfriend in a drive-by attack in Mill Valley because the woman rejected him.
In the video, the thief is seen walking around the showroom in a crouching posture, presumably because of a climbing harness, San Francisco police Inspector Matthew Hanley said.
Authorities believe that person was Wade, although Hanley acknowledged under cross examination that he didn't think the theft was a one-person job.
On the surveillance video, a man pushing a broom is seen in a different part of the building. The two did not meet before the car was driven away, Hanley testified.
Hanley said he later confronted Wade and told him to return the car. Wade was not arrested, however, until authorities investigating the Mill Valley shooting spotted him driving the vehicle, according to Marin County sheriff's officials.
