Assad forces bombard northern towns, avoid Turkish border

ANTAKYA, Turkey (Reuters) - Helicopter gunships bombarded a strategic town in northern Syria overnight and tanks moved close to the commercial hub of Aleppo, rebels said, but kept well clear of new Turkish air defenses installed to curb Syrian action near its frontiers.

Turkish commanders inspected the missile batteries deployed on the border region on Thursday following Syria's shooting down of a Turkish warplane a week ago, which has sharply raised tensions between the two nations.

The Turkish deployments, a graphic warning to President Bashar al-Assad, coincide with rising violence across Syria and increasingly urgent international efforts to forge a peace deal as the nation slips into full-blown war.

As the Turkish-Syrian dimension ratcheted up further pressure, peace envoy Kofi Annan said on Friday he was "optimistic" that crisis talks in Geneva on Saturday would produce an acceptable outcome, which has so far proved elusive.

However, diplomatic signals emerging later in the day were less than positive. Senior officials holding preparatory talks in Geneva on Friday failed to overcome differences on Annan's plan for a political transition. Western diplomats said Russia was pressing for changes to the text. Russian diplomats said the work continued but they would not "impose" a solution on Syria.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met over dinner in St. Petersburg on Friday. It was unclear whether they narrowed their differences.

Regional analysts said that while neither Turkey nor its NATO allies appeared to have any appetite to enforce a formal no-fly zone over Syrian territory, Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan had made it clear Assad would be risking what he called the 'wrath' of Turkey if its aircraft strayed close to its borders.

Erdogan told a rally in the eastern city of Erzurum on Friday, broadcast by Turkish television: "We will not hesitate to teach a lesson to those who aim heavy weapons at their own people and at neighboring countries."

Recently, there were clashes close to the border between Syrian forces and rebels. Last weekend, Damascus said "terrorists" infiltrating from Turkey were killed and there have been reports of Syrian forces shooting into camps for refugees in Turkey.

The United States, Britain and France have said that Assad is responsible for the violence, which the United Nations estimates has killed at least 10,000 people, and is no longer fit to govern. Russia and China, however, reject what they describe as Western calls for "regime change".

Turkey, sheltering some 34,000 Syrian refugees and providing bases for the rebel Free Syria Army (FSA), is in the forefront of the efforts to bring down Assad.

SYRIAN TANKS MASS

The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 190 people, including 125 civilians, were killed on Thursday.

General Mustafa al-Sheikh, head of the Higher Military Council, a grouping of senior officers who defected from Assad's forces, said around 170 Syrian tanks had assembled at an infantry school near the village of Musalmieh northeast of the city of Aleppo, just 30 km (19 miles) from the Turkish border.

"They're either preparing to move to the border to counter the Turkish deployment or attack the rebellious (Syrian) towns and villages in and around the border zone north of Aleppo," Sheikh told Reuters by telephone from the border.

Omar Abdallah, an activist in Idlib coordinating with the Free Syrian Army said: "After taking hits in rural Aleppo and Idlib, the army is re-grouping ... There is speculation that these forces intend to ring Aleppo, starting July 1."

Rebel sources in Turkey's Hatay region said Assad's helicopters attacked Saraqeb, a strategic town deep in Idlib province, but kept away from the area directly along the Turkish border in the rural regions of Idlib and Aleppo provinces.

Neither Turkey, which fears a local clash escalating into a regional sectarian conflagration, nor Syria, has any interest in a confrontation on their shared border.

Ankara, which has the second biggest army in NATO, called an emergency NATO meeting after its warplane was shot down.

Turkey has in the past talked about creating a humanitarian corridor on Syrian territory if refugee flows became dangerously unmanageable or the scale of killing in Syria became intolerable. But it had always said this would require international endorsement.

"NATO just doesn't look like it's in the mood," David Hartwell, Middle East analyst at IHS Jane's, said. "What you might get is the Turks forcing a de facto no-fly zone."

SQUARING UP?

Erdogan announced earlier this week that he had issued new rules of engagement to his border troops and said any Syrian military elements approaching Turkish borders and deemed a threat would be treated as a target. But he failed, perhaps deliberately, to specify how close Syrian forces could come to the border before becoming vulnerable.

Rebels sources said they saw two Syrian attack helicopters on Friday, flying about 4 km from the Turkish border in Idlib province and landing at an army base at Bab al-Hawa, close to Reyhanli, one of the places where Turkey has stationed anti-aircraft defenses.

It was the first time aircraft had been spotted close to the border and appeared to test Turkey's new rules of engagement.

"The Syrians might accept a very narrow zone along the border. Syria will remain very reluctant to get involved in any conflict with Turkey. They would be up against a very serious military foe," said Malcolm Chalmers, research director at Britain's Royal United Services Institute.

The world has been accused by Syrian opposition activists of inertia over the bloodshed. Diplomacy has failed to produce agreement between Western powers, backing the opposition, and Russia, which has used its U.N. veto to block Western and Sunni Arab moves to drive Assad from power.

Ahead of Saturday's meeting, Russia proposed changes to Annan's plan for a national unity government in Syria, despite initially supporting it, but the United States, Britain and France rejected the amendments, Western diplomats said.

Russia and the other permanent U.N. Security Council members told Annan this week they supported a transitional cabinet that could include government and opposition members but would "exclude ... those whose continued presence and participation would undermine the credibility of the transition and jeopardize stability and reconciliation", according to Annan's proposal.

Diplomats told Reuters that Annan's idea of excluding certain people was clearly referring to Assad.

Although Russia signaled to Annan this week that his plan was acceptable, foreign minister Lavrov reversed course on Thursday, diplomats said. Diplomats said the Russians demanded that Annan remove from his proposal the language about excluding people from a Syrian national unity government.

Annan had made preliminary acceptance of his guidelines for a political transition for Syria a condition for organizing Saturday's meeting of foreign ministers in Geneva. It is to include Clinton and Lavrov and colleagues from Britain, France, China, Turkey, Iraq, Kuwait and Qatar. Iran and Saudi Arabia, regional powers deeply at odds over Syria, were not invited.

"I think we are going to have a good meeting tomorrow," Annan told Reuters Television on Friday. "I am optimistic."

Assad on Thursday dismissed the notion of any outside solution to the 16-month-old uprising against his rule.

"We will not accept any non-Syrian, non-national model, whether it comes from big countries or friendly countries. No one knows how to solve Syria's problems as well as we do."

Recipe: The World's Healthiest Vanilla Milkshake | One Green Planet

Recipe: The World's Healthiest Vanilla Milkshake

This calls for celebration.?Let?s get down to business. Milkshake business.?When I was a wee one, the only thing keeping me from bouncing off the walls at the doctor?s office was the assurance that a drug store milkshake was just around the corner.

A woman named Annie, who is quite possibly the sweetest person alive, worked the drug store counter without fail. I was always greeted with a warm smile, a hug, and a milkshake. No wonder I love her so much.

Nowadays, flu shots are subsided by fruit cups because I no longer partake in large quantities of sugary fatty glop. But there is hope yet! Inspired by my recent?DQ-related revelation, I knew I could take on this other extremely delicious frozen indulgence.

So how did I handle it? Like any other sane person would, ?I had this milkshake for breakfast. For testing purposes, of course, because we are all more alert in the morning and I wanted to make sure I could accurately judge the awesomeness of this milkshake. See? I did this because I love you.

One thing I realized via my extreme morning alertness? This thing is big. HUGE. Like, twice the size of a McFlurry huge. I doubted my ability to finish such a thing, but it turns out I encountered no problem in the area. Weird.

But if you?re a person with a semblance of normality in you, you?ll probably be enjoying this milkshake with the help of a friend or enemy. But at only 120 calories for the entire big huge ginormous thing, you might be able to make room.

Miraculous, I know. In more ways than one.

The World?s Healthiest Vanilla Milkshake (Vegan, Low Carb, Gluten Free, Grain Free, Sugar Free, Low Calorie)

Ever wanted to slurp down a huge milkshake only to not have it go straight to your hips? Me too! And now you can with this amazing vanilla milkshake. Please forgive the infomercial type introduction. If you were to split the milkshake in half, it would only have 60 calories. A 60 calorie milkshake? Yes please!

World?s Healthiest Vanilla Milkshake

Serving size: 24 fl oz (1 recipe)

Calories: 120

Fat: 10.5 grams (healthy almond fats!)

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups of unsweetened almond milk, divided (I suppose you could substitute your milk of choice, but I haven?t tried it.)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • stevia or other sweetener, to taste (I?use 1-2 packets of stevia)

Preparation:

Combine 1.5 cups of almond, vanilla extract, and sweetener (I use a glass measuring cup for this).?Pour into an ice cube tray (or other plastic container) and stick it in the freezer until it is completely firmed up and frozen.?Once the almond milk mixture is frozen, blend in a blender (go Vita!) along with the remaining 1.5 cups of almond milk until evenly blended and creamy. You can add more or less almond milk depending on how thick you like your shake. You can also add more sweetener at this point if you are so inclined.

Huge? Yes. Hard to finish? Not at all.

Enjoy!

'Nothing left' as hundreds of homes gone in Colo. fire

The tens of thousands of evacuees in the Colorado Springs, Colo., area received word Thursday that hundreds of homes have been lost to the out-of-control wildfire there.

"We now know hundreds of homes have been destroyed," Mayor Steve Bach said a morning press conference.

"There was nothing left in some areas -- burned out foundations that were smoldering. It looked like a nuclear weapon had been dropped. It's as close to hell as I could imagine," Bach said after touring the heavily damaged Mountain Shadows subdivision.

Bach said a firmer count would be available later Thursday. Sources earlier told the Colorado Springs Gazette that as many as 300 homes were destroyed in a big firestorm Tuesday, and that more homes have burned since.

Officials were able to confirm that no new homes were destroyed overnight.

Along the fire lines, crews were still battling what the city fire chief had called a "monster."

"Something blowing up at Blodgett and Woodmen," reported one firefighter over an emergency communications scanner, according to the Gazette.

Blodgett Peak is near the U.S. Air Force Academy and crews have been battling flare-ups there for several days.

Crews are getting a break in the weather, with the area no longer under a "red flag warning," which means extreme fire danger.

On Wednesday, mandatory evacuations were ordered for the 3,000 people in the town of Crystola and part of Woodland Park after more than 32,000 people had to flee on Tuesday.

Those evacuation orders came as the fire moved down a ridge toward those homes, the Gazette reported, citing communications from an emergency services scanner. "It's huge," said the voice over the scanner. "I would estimate two-three miles in width."

In another scanner exchange, a request was made for more fire crews at Blodgett Peak. "As of right now I cannot hold this hill," a voice said from the fire.

Story: Heat hub for US is Kansas farm town -- not Death Valley

Heavy smoke made for unhealthy air in and around the city. After jumping fire lines Tuesday, the towering blaze has now burned more than 29 square miles.

By late Wednesday, winds picked up and stirred flames, forcing some crews to retreat, the Gazette reported. C-130 planes used to bomb the fire with retardant were grounded.

Colorado Springs Fire Chief Rich Brown on Wednesday called the Waldo Canyon Fire a "monster event" that is "not even remotely close to being contained." The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Tuesday night, the community of Mountain Shadows, northwest of Colorado Springs, appeared to be enveloped in an orange glow.

People were "freaking out" as they fled Tuesday night, local resident Kathleen Tillman told the Denver Post. "You are driving through smoke. It is completely pitch black, and there is tons of ash dropping on the road."

"This is a fire of epic proportions," Brown said at a briefing Tuesday night.

"It was like looking at the worst movie set you could imagine," Gov. John Hickenlooper added after flying over the fire. "It's almost surreal. You look at that, and it's like nothing I've seen before."

Colorado is battling eight large fires, its worst fire season in history.

President Barack Obama will tour the Colorado Springs area on Friday to show his support, the White House said Wednesday.

Wildfires leave Colorado tourism high and dry

The state's largest blaze is the 136-square-mile High Park Fire, which has destroyed 257 homes and killed one woman. That fire was triggered by lightning on June 9 and is nearly contained.

In Boulder, Colo., the Flagstaff Fire burned to within 1.5 miles of the southern edge of the University of Colorado campus. The 230-acre fire was 30 percent contained and "remains a threat to Boulder," Reuters quoted incident commander Rocky Opliger as saying.

Nationwide, 35 large, active wildfires were being fought. The bulk of them were in nine western states: Colorado, Montana, Utah, Wyoming, South Dakota, New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona and California.

Although the fire season got off to an early start in the West, the number of fires and acreage burned nationwide is still below the 10-year average for this time of year.

The Associated Press provided this roundup of other fires across the West:

  • In Utah, a 72-square-mile wildfire has destroyed at least 56 structures, mainly homes, between Fountain Green and Fairview. That number is expected to rise. One person has died in that fire. A fire near St. George started Wednesday afternoon and had grown to 2,000 acres by midnight, forcing an undetermined number of residents near New Harmony and Bumblebee to evacuate. The fire was burning three miles north of Zion National Park, prompting park officials to close a canyon area popular with hikers known as the Kolob section.
  • In southeast Montana, wildfires that have torched more than 200 square miles and burned dozens of homes spread farther Wednesday, with more evacuations ordered after a blaze near Roundup jumped a fire line. The growing Dahl Fire, which has burned more than 60 homes by one estimate, forced an unknown number of residents to leave their homes near its southern flank, on top of an estimated 600 people evacuated the day before. "That's one of the most dangerous fires in the history of Montana," Gov. Brian Schweitzer said.
  • In Wyoming, a wildfire in the Bridger-Teton National Forest has grown from about 2,000 acres to 12,000 acres, or nearly 19 square miles, officials said Wednesday. Authorities worked to get campers out of the area.

The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to this report.

The Modbook Pro gets official, CEO Andrea Haas talks survival in a postiPad world

You'd be forgiven for assuming that the ModBook dream died with release of the first iPad. After all, the first version of the hacked notebook predated Apple's announcement by a couple of years. When the iPad finally hit in 2010, it did a lot to address the desire for a slate device running Apple software. Since then, things have largely remained silent on the Axiotron front. In fact, the last time we heard a significant peep out of the company was back in 2009. Its former CEO Andreas Haas assured us, however, that the real reason for the company's silence is a bit more complicated than the story of yet another product falling victim to the Apple steamroller.

"Axiotron itself was a great company," says Haas. "Back in 2008, I took the company public, everything was really great. There was one little thing that turned out to be a huge problem, which is that the company was largely bank-financed and 10 days after it went public, Lehman Brothers went belly-up and put the whole financial market in a tailspin. After that was mostly spent on trying to somehow restructure the company, and ultimately there was just nothing that could be done about it."

As the newly reborn Modbook Inc. teased via its Facebook page yesterday, however, the name lives on. This week marks the return of the tablet in the form of the 13.3-inch Modbook Pro, a device slated to ship early this fall. Can such a device survive in a world that's been downright flooded by tablets in the years since its predecessor's release? The company clearly feels it can -- that its new product is unique enough to set itself apart in amongst the deluge of slates, calling the new Pro, "the world's most powerful and largest-screen tablet computer." And in a space where hardware and software are relatively neutered, it's understandable how the company might be inclined to make such bold claims about the converted notebook.

Accused hoarders pack shelter with pets : News : CarolinaLive.com

Read?more: Local, News, Pet Hoarders, Accused Hoarders Pack Shelter with Pets, Animals, Cats, Dogs, Grand Strand Humane Society, Animal Shelter, Animal Control, Ill Treatment of Animals, Mistreatment of Animals

In the past week, 87 cats and dogs were taken from two homes in Myrtle Beach. The owners were charged with mistreatment of animals. Those pets are now the responsibility of the Grand Strand Humane Society.

"So we've received in a weeks time almost 100 from hoarding instances," said Sandy Brown with the Grand Strand Humane Society.

Police seized 51 cats and dogs from a home last week and?36 cats Monday from another home.

The?humane society is now overrun?with animals, housing them in hallways and conference rooms.

"We can't say no," said Brown.

And that's the problem for people considered to be hoarders, they can't say no.

An animal lover himself, Coastal Carolina Psychology Professor Dr. Tony Albiniak understands how having a few pets can easily escalate to an unmanageable situation.

"I wouldn't call them evil people or bad people or even criminal people, they have a fairly severe psychological problem which needs to be addressed," she said.

Dr. Albiniak believes hoarding animals is a form of obsessive compulsive disorder that individuals cannot control, and they really believe they have the animals' best interests at heart.

"They're not lying. They really believe they're taking adequate care of the animals," Dr. Albiniak said.

But when they can't, it becomes the humane society's problem. Brown hopes law enforcement can stop before it gets any worse.

"The laws need to be stricter and the punishments need to be more stringent," says Brown.

The humane society needs kitty litter, dog food, cat food, and newspaper. But most important, they need monetary donations to pay for medicine for the animals.

The Hogg & Gartlan Law Firm and the Law Firm of Prince, Glover & Hayes along with Troy University Dothan are proud to present a six hour continuing legal education seminar for Alabama general practice attorneys on Friday July 13, 2012, at Troy University Dothan entitled David vs. Goliath: How to Survive and Defeat the Giant. The seminar will focus on personal injury and accident cases and specifically the way to survive and defeat the giant insurance companies and big powerful corporations in injury and accident cases.

The attendees will learn about Goliath and the danger he poses to the community, as well as the dirty tactics and tricks he employs to deny injury and accident victim?s justice.

The attendees will also learn that victory and survival is obtained through early and thorough trial preparation in each and every case in an effort to prove and demonstrate liability, injuries, and damages, overcome defenses and add value to the case to maximize recovery. This puts the personal injury and accident lawyer in the best position to prove and demonstrate that full compensation in a case serves to protect the public by sending a message that people and businesses that violate rules and expose the public to unnecessary danger will be required to pay in full measure.

Speakers include personal injury and accident lawyers David Hogg and Aaron Gartlan of the Hogg & Gartlan Law Firm in Dothan, Alabama, personal injury and accident lawyers Matt Glover and Coe Baxter of the Law Firm of Prince, Glover & Hayes in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Kirk Eriksen, DC of the Chiropractic Health Institute in Dothan, Lynn Suggs, PhD, LPC, NCC of Professional Counseling & Consulting Services in Dothan and Harry Weiser, MD, FAANS, FACS of Dothan Neuroscience Center.
The seminar will be free of charge to the first sixty Alabama general practice attorneys who register. Breakfast will be provided by Freedom Court Reporting and lunch will be provided by LexisNexis. Refreshments will be provided and there will be a number of vendors in attendance.

To register, please call: 334-983-0005.

Mind reading from brain recordings? 'Neural fingerprints' of memory associations decoded

ScienceDaily (June 26, 2012) ? Researchers have long been interested in discovering the ways that human brains represent thoughts through a complex interplay of electrical signals. Recent improvements in brain recording and statistical methods have given researchers unprecedented insight into the physical processes under-lying thoughts. For example, researchers have begun to show that it is possible to use brain recordings to reconstruct aspects of an image or movie clip someone is viewing, a sound someone is hearing or even the text someone is reading.

A new study by University of Pennsylvania and Thomas Jefferson University scientists brings this work one step closer to actual mind reading by using brain recordings to infer the way people organize associations between words in their memories.

The research was conducted by professor Michael J. Kahana of the Department of Psychology in Penn's School of Arts and Sciences and graduate student Jere-my R. Manning, then a member of the Neuroscience Graduate Group in Penn's Perelman School of Medicine. They collaborated with other members of Kahana's laboratory, as well as with research faculty at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Their study was published in The Journal of Neuroscience.

The brain recordings necessary for the study were made possible by the fact that the participants were epilepsy patients who volunteered for the study while awaiting brain surgery. These participants had tiny electrodes implanted in their brains, which allowed researchers to precisely observe electrical signals that would not have been possible to measure outside the skull. While recording these electrical signals, the researchers asked the participants to study lists of 15 randomly chosen words and, a minute later, to repeat the words back in which-ever order they came to mind.

The researchers examined the brain recordings as the participants studied each word to home in on signals in the participant' brains that reflected the meanings of the words. About a second before the participants recalled each word, these same "meaning signals" that were identified during the study phase were spontaneously reactivated in the participants' brains.

Because the participants were not seeing, hearing or speaking any words at the times these patterns were reactivated, the researchers could be sure they were observing the neural signatures of the participants' self-generated, internal thoughts.

Critically, differences across participants in the way these meaning signals were reactivated predicted the order in which the participants would recall the words. In particular, the degree to which the meaning signals were reactivated before recalling each word reflected each participant's tendency to group similar words (like "duck" and "goose") together in their recall sequence. Since the participants were instructed to say the words in the order they came to mind, the specific se-quence of recalls a participant makes provides insights into how the words were organized in that participant's memory.

In an earlier study, Manning and Kahana used a similar technique to predict participants' tendencies to organize learned information according to the time in which it was learned. Their new study adds to this research by elucidating the neural signature of organizing learned information by meaning.

"Each person's brain patterns form a sort of 'neural fingerprint' that can be used to read out the ways they organize their memories through associations between words," Manning said.

The techniques the researchers developed in this study could also be adapted to analyze many different ways of mentally organizing studied information.

"In addition to looking at memories organized by time, as in our previous study, or by meaning, as in our current study, one could use our technique to identify neural signatures of how individuals organize learned information according to appearance, size, texture, sound, taste, location or any other measurable property," Manning said.

Such studies would paint a more complete picture of a fundamental aspect of human behavior.

"Spontaneous verbal recall is a form of memory that is both pervasive in our lives and unique to the human species," Kahana said. "Yet, this aspect of human memory is the least well understood in terms of brain mechanisms. Our data show a direct correspondence between patterns of brain activity and the meanings of individual words and show how this neural representation of meaning predicts the way in which one item cues another during spontaneous recall.

"Given the critical role of language in human thought and communication, identifying a neural representation that reflects the meanings of words as they are spontaneously recalled brings us one step closer to the elusive goal of mapping thoughts in the human brain."

Using A Debt Negotiation Company For Debt Settlement

8:00 AM By Article Directory

'; div.innerHTML = summary; } // Using A Debt Negotiation Company For Debt Settlement Using A Debt Negotiation Company For Debt Settlement

Most consumers who are in debt are searching for an easy way to get rid of their debt. However, there is no magic solution for dissolving consumer debt. Often times, bills become too much for a person and they simply cannot pay them. This is when a debt negotiation company can help. A debt negotiation firm can help you to get your bills lowered, so that you are able to better pay them.

Debt negotiation, also known as debt settlement is great when you are overwhelmed with bills People often turn to a program when they can no longer pay the minimum required payments. Generally speaking, consumers turn to a program after they have met with a debt consolidation program.

When searching for a debt negotiation program make sure the cost of the program is feasible. You will want to make sure you can afford the program. Otherwise, you are only causing yourself perpetual financial hardship. However, if the program is affordable and will work with your other monthly obligations, then the program is definitely worth considering. When looking for a debt relief program, you will want to know if they report to any or all of the three major credit bureaus. Generally speaking, companies do not report your involvement with their programs to the credit bureaus. However, there are some out there that do.

You will also want to know if the program offers any type of guarantee. For instance, if the program cannot help you reduce your debt, then you should not be obligated to pay their fees. Also, you want to stay away from companies that offer a "quick fix" to your financial problems.

When becoming involved with a debt negotiation program, it is important that you realize your credit rating will get worse before it gets better. All things considered, this is a small price to pay to get out from underneath your debt. Especially if without the program you are headed towards bankruptcy.

When searching for a debt settlement service, check to see if they offer any kind of assistance for bankruptcy, should their program not work for you. Some programs will give you a refund for their services, so that it can then be used for a bankruptcy lawyer. Ask family and friends for names of debt relief companies they have used before. If you are not comfortable with going to family and friends, you can also check with the Better Business Bureau. You want to make sure that you are working with a reputable company.

Although no one likes to admit they are having financial problems, there are times when help is needed. That is when a program can help. Before signing up with a debt negotiation company, make sure you do your homework about the company. Be sure that the program fits your current needs. After signing up with a debt settlement program, you can soon be on your way to financial freedom.

Anderson Silva tells of plans to break Chael Sonnen?s face

Through the scads of trash talk Chael Sonnen has spewed since his last bout with Anderson Silva, the UFC middleweight champ has stayed mostly silent. Sure, he'd answer back from time to time, but for the most part, Silva let Sonnen do the heavy lifting in the trash talk department.

That ended Monday when Silva erupted during the UFC 148 media conference call.

"First of all, Chael is a criminal," Silva said through Ed Soares, his manager who often serves as his interpreter. "He's been convicted of crimes. He doesn't deserve to be inside the Octagon. And when the time comes and the time is right, I'm going to break his face and break every one of his teeth in his mouth."

Silva is referring to Sonnen's guilty plea in a mortgage fraud case that happened just months after Silva beat Sonnen with a fifth-round submission at UFC 117.

It wasn't the end of Silva's verbal beatdown of Sonnen.

"I'm going to beat Chael like he's never been beaten before. The joke is over. There's no more talking. I know he's on the line listening, and the game is over. I'm going to beat his [expletive] out of the UFC. He's never going to want to fight again after I'm done with him."

Halfway through the call, Silva disappeared. With his opponent gone, Sonnen hung up, too. UFC president Dana White ended the call, and then tweeted, "7 years in the UFC and I've never heard Anderson talk like this before!!!"

There is only one plausible reason for this Anderson to have shown up. The real Anderson has an evil twin named Andreson. Anderson turns to Andreson when he wants to avoid conference calls, and tells him to let loose. Andreson read through everything Sonnen has said about his twin brother, and let it out. Then, at UFC 148, both men will show up at the fight just to confuse Sonnen.

Or maybe, just maybe, Silva got sick of holding it. Two weeks before the fight, he's letting it out, which is an interesting sign of things to come on July 7.

    "Grey's Anatomy," ABC
Status: Renewed
Why: Shonda Rhimes' medical drama is a ratings juggernaut, even in its eighth season, and with most of her big stars signed on for more, ABC gave the go-ahead for a ninth season.

  • "Happy Endings"

    "Happy Endings," ABC
Status: Renewed
Why: This show is way too "ca-yute" to bubble it, and obviously someone high up at ABC agrees. After its first season was moved around and aired all out of order, the network still gave it another chance to find its audience in Season 2 ... and it has, and hopefully will continue to in Season 3.

  • "Last Man Standing"

    "Last Man Standing," ABC
Status: Renewed
Why: Ratings for Tim Allen's return to sitcoms have been very strong, making it Tuesday's most-watched comedy. If you can beat "Glee" and "The Biggest Loser," a second season is a given.

  • "Man Up!"

    "Man Up!," ABC
Status: Canceled
Why: ABC pulled the show after eight episodes.

  • "The Middle"

    "The Middle," ABC
Status: Renewed
Why: Now in its third season, "The Middle" is still holding onto its middle position in the ratings on Wednesday nights, and that seems just about right. It doesn't do "American Idol" or "Survivor" numbers, of course, but with over 7 million viewers, it's a strong comedy for the network that easily beats anything NBC is offering.

  • "Missing"

    "Missing," ABC
Status: Canceled
Why: Ashley Judd lead this drama about a former CIA agent whose son goes missing, kicking her back into action to find him. The series was only set to air 10 episodes, miniseries-style, with the potential for more, but a cancellation means that's all they're getting.

  • "Modern Family"

    "Modern Family," ABC
Status: Renewed
Why: "Modern Family" remains ABC's biggest sitcom success story of the last decade, both in ratings and awards love. This critical darling is getting a fourth season of hijinks with the hilarious Pritchett-Dunphy clan.

  • "Once Upon A Time"

    "Once Upon A Time," ABC
Status: Renewed
Why: "Once Upon a Time" has gotten praise for being one of the more family-friendly dramas on TV, and it's been pulling in close to 10 million viewers each week because of it. We're excited by the almost endless possibilities for new fairy tale-inspired stories to tackle in Season 2.

  • "Pan Am"

    "Pan Am," ABC
Status: Canceled
Why: Poor "Pan Am" just never quite took off. The series' vintage look actually worked against it, much like NBC's swiftly canceled "Playboy Club" -- guess when you're being compared to award-winning shows like "Mad Men," it makes it more than a little tough to live up to the hype.

  • "Private Practice"

    "Private Practice," ABC
Status: Renewed
Why: "Private Practice" has never gotten "Grey's Anatomy"-level ratings, and things got shakier when ABC bumped it to Tuesday nights to make room for creator Shonda Rhimes' other new show, "Scandal," but they've given the show a sixth season order.

  • "Revenge"

    "Revenge," ABC
Status: Renewed
Why: With a clever mix of drama, mystery and serious revenge-ing, this is hands down one of the most addictive new shows on TV, and we can't wait to see where they take things in Season 2.

  • "The River"

    "The River," ABC
Status: Canceled
Why: The promise of "Paranormal Activity"-like scares each week quickly fizzled after this show premiered, along with the ratings. The first season's eight episodes came and went, and ABC has nixed any plans for more.

  • "Scandal"

    "Scandal," ABC
Status: Renewed
Why: Shonda Rhimes' latest show isn't about doctors at all -- and that's why we're glad it's sticking around. Kerry Washington is amazing as Olivia Pope, a Washington, D.C. fixer with a crack team of specialists helping make bad headlines vanish before they're ever written. Here's hoping for more than seven episodes in its second season.

  • "Shark Tank"

    "Shark Tank," ABC
Status: Renewed
Why: Now in its third season, this reality competition show is unlike any other on network TV and ABC is keeping it around for more for that very reason.

  • "Suburgatory"

    "Suburgatory," ABC
Status: Renewed
Why: It's smart, quick and not too cute -- "Suburgatory" is consistently named the sitcom you should be watching, but probably aren't. The great cast makes this one a no-brainer, and the ratings have stayed pretty consistent, too. We're thrilled it's getting a second season to shine!

  • "Work It"

    "Work It," ABC
Status: Canceled
Why: Let us count the ways ...

  • "2 Broke Girls"

    "2 Broke Girls," CBS
Status: Renewed
Why: At first, people balked at the racist supporting characters, but now it seems that audiences are all over "2 Broke Girls" -- it's ratings have seen a steady increase, and it won the People's Choice Award for Favorite New Comedy.

  • "A Gifted Man"

    "A Gifted Man," CBS
Status: Canceled
Why: "A Gifted Man's" total viewer numbers were OK for a Friday night, but a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic is especially bad for CBS. Another bad sign: star Patrick Wilson tweeted about the end: "I had a great time. Thanks to my fans. So happy it's done." And done it is.

  • "The Amazing Race"

    "The Amazing Race," CBS
Status: Renewed
Why: Voted the best reality show on TV several times (albeit years ago), "The Amazing Race" isn't going anywhere. Ratings have dropped a bit, but are still solid.

  • "The Big Bang Theory"

    "The Big Bang Theory," CBS
Status: Renewed
Why: Nothing seems to be able to make a dent in this show. With fantastic ratings (it beat "Idol"!) and a rabid following, we'll be seeing plenty more "Big Bang" before its run is over.

  • "Blue Bloods"

    "Blue Bloods," CBS
Status: Renewed
Why: The anchor of Friday nights on CBS, "Blue Bloods" has performed well, pulling in around 11 million viewers an episode. The show might not have the youngest audience, but it's still enough for CBS to keep it on the schedule.

  • "Criminal Minds"

    "Criminal Minds," CBS
Status: Renewed
Why: Paget Brewster might be checking out, but "Criminal Minds" is here to stay. In Season 7, the procedural is still a consistently strong ratings performer for CBS.

  • "CSI"

    "CSI," CBS
Status: Renewed
Why: Whenever the time comes, the "CSI" mothership will end with a lot of fanfare, but not this year. With new faces Ted Danson and Elisabeth Shue around, there is going to be at least one more season.
• "CSI: Miami"

    "CSI: Miami," CBS
Status: Canceled
Why: Out of the three (!) "CSI" programs on the air, "CSI: Miami" is the one to say goodbye first. The one-time ratings giant has been affected by football overruns (just as "The Good Wife" has) and "CSI: NY" has the edge in terms of total viewers, meaning a "Miami" sunset was inevitable.
• "CSI: NY"

    "CSI: NY," CBS
Status: Renewed
Why: Of the two "CSI" spinoffs, "CSI: NY" is the stronger -- pulling in more than 10 million viewers on a Friday night is no easy task -- and with "CSI: Miami" canceled, "CSI: NY's" renewal was a no-brainer.

  • "The Good Wife"

    "The Good Wife," CBS
Status: Renewed
Why: This critical darling suffered after its move from Tuesdays to Sundays thanks to sports overruns. The viewers are frustrated, but given its strong cast and Emmy love, the show is still coming back for more.

  • "Hawaii Five-0"

    "Hawaii Five-0," CBS
Status: Renewed
Why: Despite the scheduling setback as Alex O'Loughlin seeks treatment, Season 2 is still doing well for CBS in a very competitive timeslot.
• "How To Be a Gentleman"

"How To Be A Gentleman," CBS
Status: Canceled
Why: Not even having "The Big Bang Theory" as a lead-in could save this David Hornsby project, which only lasted three episodes.

  • "How I Met Your Mother"

"How I Met Your Mother," CBS
Status: Renewed
Why: CBS renewed "How I Met Your Mother" for two more seasons in March 2011, so fans can look forward to being strung along about the titular mother's identity for a bit longer.
• "The Mentalist"

    "The Mentalist," CBS
Status: Renewed
Why: Although the show hit a season ratings low in the middle of February, its fanbase and overall ratings were enough to have it return for another season.

  • "Mike & Molly"

    "Mike & Molly," CBS
Status: Renewed
Why: Thanks to an Emmy win and Oscar nomination, Melissa McCarthy is a Hollywood power player and CBS is keen to keep her around. Just look at the multiple pilots she has in the works as a behind the scenes player! "Mike & Molly" will be back for a third season.

  • "NCIS"

    "NCIS," CBS
Status: Renewed
Why: The long-running procedural has become a ratings juggernaut at a time when most shows start shedding viewers. Season 10 is now happening.

  • "NCIS: Los Angeles"

    "NCIS: Los Angeles," CBS
Status:Renewed
Why: This show has gone up in the ratings over the last couple of years, and people can't get enough of L.L. Cool J and Chris O'Donnell.

  • "NYC 22"

    "NYC 22," CBS
Status: Canceled
Why: This "Rookie Blue" clone from executive producer Robert DeNiro didn't really move the needle when it premiered midseason; CBS officially axed it with three episodes left to air.

  • "Person of Interest"

    "Person of Interest," CBS
Status: Renewed
Why: With ratings matching juggernauts like "Grey's Anatomy" and fans popping up everywhere, we'll be seeing another season of "Person of Interest."

  • "Rob"

    "Rob," CBS
Status: Canceled
Why: "Rob's" spot after ratings juggernaut "The Big Bang Theory" probably went a long way in helping it survive to see the end of its first season, but that's as far as it'll get.

  • "Rules of Engagement"

    "Rules of Engagement," CBS
Status: Renewed
Why: This show has moved around so much it's hard to remember when it's on, and with six seasons under its belt it's had quite a nice run. Despite slipping ratings and the aforementioned constant switcheroos, there's still a future for "Rules of Engagement."

  • "Survivor"

    "Survivor," CBS
Status: Renewed
Why: Of course we have "Survivor" coming back for another season. Where else are we going to see petty squabbles and insane behavior on some of the most beautiful beaches in the world?

  • "Two and a Half Men"

"Two and a Half Men," CBS
Status: Renewed
Why: Despite a less-than-favorable critical response, the revamped "Two and a Half Men" keeps pulling in respectable numbers every week. Ashton Kutcher, Jon Cryer and Angus T. Jones will all return for a Season 10.

  • "Undercover Boss"

    "Undercover Boss," CBS
Status: Renewed
Why: The inherent addictiveness of this show has gone a long way in securing loyal viewers -- it has been on top of the ratings several times this season alone.

  • "Unforgettable"

    "Unforgettable," CBS
Status: Likely to be renewed
Why: In its timeslot, "Unforgettable" keeps emerging on top, beating out "Parenthood" and "Body of Proof." Leading lady Poppy Montgomery has been called "the female version of 'The Mentalist,'" another top-rated show, so things are looking positive.

  • "90210"

    "90210," The CW
Status: Renewed
Why: While its ratings have plummeted since last season, the Beverly Hills crew is still doing better than "Supernatural," "Hart of Dixie," "Nikita," and "Gossip Girl" on average.

  • "America's Next Top Model"

"America's Next Top Model," The CW
Status: Renewed
Why: Tyra Banks' reality show is in the early stages of its 18th cycle with a Brit vs. U.S. installment. Cycle 19 will be the show's inaugural "college edition."

  • "Gossip Girl"

  • "H8R"

    "H8R," The CW
Status: Canceled
Why: Apparently, the opposite of MTV's former series "Fanatic" proved people don't love to hate Kim Kardashian and Snooki as much as we thought. It lasted four episodes.

  • "Hart of Dixie"

    "Hart of Dixie," The CW
Status: Renewed
Why: Josh Schwartz and Rachel Bilson return for a sophomore season of "Hart of Dixie," hopefully so they can make more viral videos.

  • "Nikita"

    "Nikita," The CW
Status: Renewed
Why: We're shocked the show is coming back for another season, but its hard-core fans will certainly be happy.

  • "One Tree Hill"

    "One Tree Hill," The CW
Status: Canceled
Why: After nine seasons, it's time to say goodbye to "One Tree Hill." After subpar ratings, the network decided to pull the plug on its long-standing teen soap. Thankfully, the CW gave "One Tree Hill" a final 13 episodes to wrap up all of the drama.

  • "Remodeled"

    "Remodeled," The CW
Status: As good as dead
Why: Not only has "Remodeled" already been replaced on the CW schedule, but it debuted with one of the CW's lowest-rated premiere ever, scoring a terrible 0.3 in the coveted 18-49 demo.

  • "The Secret Circle"

  • "Supernatural"

    "Supernatural," The CW
Status: Renewed
Why: This fan favorite will return, but time will tell if the cast wants a Season 8.

  • "The Vampire Diaries"

  • "Alcatraz"

    "Alcatraz," Fox
Status: Canceled
Why: "Alcatraz" -- and almost every other recent J.J. Abrams TV project -- proves that slapping "from J.J. Abrams" on a show does not equal ratings success. The series debuted strong, but fizzled in the ratings, leading Fox to pull the plug.

  • "Allen Gregory"

    "Allen Gregory," Fox
Status: Canceled
Why: Jonah Hill's animated series only lasted seven episodes. The Oscar nominee should probably just stick to movies for a while ...

  • "American Dad"

    "American Dad," Fox
Status: Renewed
Why: Fox gave out early renewals to "American Dad" and "The Cleveland Show," keeping its Sunday night animation block intact.
• "Bones"

    "Bones," Fox
Status: Renewed
Why: The show got a ratings boost thanks to its lead-in "The X Factor." With the floundering state of Fox's dramas (see ya, "House"), Fox is holding on to this one.

  • "Breaking In"

    "Breaking In," Fox
Status: Canceled
Why: After a last minute revival, "Breaking In" returned for a second season with Megan Mullally in tow, but it wasn't enough to revive this D.O.A. comedy.

  • "The Cleveland Show"

    "The Cleveland Show," Fox
Status: Renewed
Why: Fox gave "The Cleveland Show" and "American Dad" early renewals and this spinoff will be back for a Season 4, but no word on a fifth season.
• "I Hate My Teenage Daughter"

"I Hate My Teenage Daughter," Fox
Status: Canceled
Why: As if getting panned by critics wasn't enough, "I Hate My Teenage Daughter's" shrinking ratings had the show marked for death, then Fox benched the sitcom for three months after only four episodes and then ... yep, buh-bye forever. • "Napoleon Dynamite"

Cool, cool, cool -- you can pop, pop! that champagne now.

  • "Fashion Star"

    "Fashion Star," NBC
Status: Renewed
Why: The high-style reality series with Nicole Richie, Jessica Simpson, Elle Macpherson and John Varvatos has certainly been confusing, but it's still a smart business model: The winning designs each week are for sale in stores the next day, and those stores just happen to be covering a large portion of production and advertising costs.

  • "Fear Factor"

    "Fear Factor," NBC
Status: Likely to be renewed
Why: Despite the donkey semen scandal that cut this season of "Fear Factor" a bit short, "Fear Factor" boosts NBC's ratings ... and can a scandal really compete with that?

    "Grimm," NBC
Status: Renewed
Why: The supernatural fairy tale drama has been doing well for NBC on Friday nights -- it hovers around the 5 million viewers mark, which is pretty solid by NBC standards and why the network gave the drama an early renewal.

  • "Harry's Law"

    "Harry's Law," NBC
Status:Cancelled
Why: While earlier this year "Harry's Law" was one of NBC's top players, after a three-month break between January and March, the Kathy Bates drama saw mediocre ratings and failed to hold on to viewers.

  • "Law & Order: SVU"

    "Law & Order: SVU," NBC
Status: Renewed
Why: The only "Law & Order" left, "SVU" has been an NBC power player for 13 years and will return for a 14th.

  • "The Office"

    "The Office," NBC
Status: Renewed
Why: It's hard to imagine a long-running, fan-favorite show like "The Office" going away without a big promotional push. The numbers are still good (by NBC standards) and "The Office" will return for a Season 9.

  • "Parenthood"

    "Parenthood," NBC
Status: Renewed
Why: The perpetual bubble show has done pretty consistent numbers for NBC this season, but three seasons in and no signs of growth is both a good and bad sign ... luckily for fans, NBC gave it a Season 4 all the same.

  • "Smash"

    "Smash," NBC
Status: Renewed
Why: After a huge promo blitz, "Smash" debuted nicely, but started losing viewers quickly. • "The Voice"

    "The Voice," NBC
Status: Renewed
Why: We may not even be at Season 2's live shows yet, but NBC is already up for more of "The Voice." Hopefully, Cee Lo's cat "Purrfect" will return for Season 3 as well.
